The story is I've got a customer who wants dot1x with ACS5 and I need a box to play with before breaking their network; having read through the docs on cisco.com I noticed that vmware was a supported platform for evaluation, as awesome as that is, carrying around an ESXi server isn't as convenient as you'd think so I boldly dropped the CD into my VirtualBox and booted to see what happened. If only it was that simple!!!!! As expected the installer crapped out early on complaining that VirtualBox is not a valid hardware configuration, so I decided to have a poke around the ISO image and had a moment of realisation. THANK YOU CISCO FOR CHOOSING! Cisco choosing an open-source installation mechanism means that with a bit of googling I could customise the install process to work in VirtualBox. To get started I followed to build a VirtualBox appliance that resembled the supported vmware machine, some things to note:.

Download ACS. Download Centos.
Install a web server. Copy the contents of the ACS CD to your web server ( look out for.discinfo).
Replace ks.cfg with your edited version ( or ). Create a virtualbox machine. Boot the VirtualBox machine from the CentOS CD with linux ks=.
As soon as you see a blue 'installer' screen eject the CentOS CD. Wait. Done Note: During my playing the anaconda installer crapped out a couple of times, just starting the process again seemed to fix the issue, some bottleneck on virtualbox disk accesses could be the problem. We don't have the passwords for the ACS, nor the recovery CDs to reset them. Does anyone have recovery CD(s) for a Cisco ACS appliance?

I'll post these up somewhere if anyone else ever needs them. Just PM me:). But how bad would rebuilding your ACS from scratch? If you are using ACS 3.2 for anything of importance, you should definitely be considering ACS 5.2 which is a complete rewrite of ACS.
I manage a fairly complex ACS 4.2 for Windows that will not migrate to a new 5.2 system. I will be building two new 5.2 appliance and will migrate our systems to the new ACS appliances. I will be dumping RSA SecureID and deploying Anyconnect for remote-access vpn at the same time so I am basically re-architecting all aaa for remote-access. If you are using external databases for user management such as Active Directory, then you probably do not have anything that cannot be rebuilt with some moderate amount of work. You may have to recreate some shared TACACS or RADIUS keys for devices using ACS for aaa. That can be a pain but doable.
