Check and see if you have the Installshield Update Manager installed and if so, if Corel is listed as a supported program for updates. Corel (and an increasing number of other applications) use the Installshield Updater and in Corel's case, the custom version installed with the software seems to have some glitches. Serial keygen. You may also wish to check their Knowledge Base where some of the problems are addressed. If you do have Installshield utility installed, Paint Shop Pro X. should. be able to update.however, it will leave a string of errors in the Event Log on every boot due to the version installed with the application not being recognized by the Microsoft Installer. Corel claims that the dual core processor systems are not compatible with Paint Shop Pro X.
They recommend uninstalling the graphics drivers back two versions to be able to run the software. They have this listed in their knowledge base; it's nuts! I'm using PSP 9 and it works, luckily. However, Corel Photo Album Trial came installed on my XPS-600 and I just uninstalled it, and now the Program Updates icon for Dell updates no longer works.
Corel deleted the necessary files. This happened on an XPS system that I returen two months ago. It's look for a file called Program Updates.lnk. I'm also having trouble updating Paint Shop Pro X to version 10.02. I am using InstallShield Update Manager, which asks for the 'Corel Paint Shop Pro X' disk. If I browse to D: Paint Shop Pro X pspx.msi, I get the following error when I click OK: 'Error 1706.No valid source code could be found for Paint Shop Pro X.
The Windows Installer cannot continue.' Manually downloading and installing the update doesn't work, either. The update behaves the same. Attempts to repair the installation from the CD also fail. The installer asks for the Paint Shop Pro CD, which is already in the drive, but will not accept the disk. Clicking OK brings up the CD request window over and over again.
All I can do is cancel the installation. My machine is not a dual core setup. I only have the Dell branded Paint Show Pro CD that came with my computer. Edited To Add: I uninstalled the program and reinstalled from the disk, which seems to have solved my update issues. I was able to update to version 10.03 without problems.

Message Edited by sqrfruit on 04:29 PM. It is my understanding from Corel that it is their software that requires being updated, or that the XPS systems revert back several versions to a much older drive for the graphics cards. Right now, I think Paint Shop Pro is not their priorty and I read in the news the other day where they merged with another company. If I am going to continue to use Paint Shop Pro, I'm using the drivers that came with the computer and not updating, and sticking with Paint Shop Pro 9. As far as I can tell, that is the only version of PSP that is stable on the XPS systems. For what it's worth, my experience is similar to sqrfrt's; Dell laptop, PSP X pre-installed, disc provided, but error 1706 messages when trying to upgrade to 10.02.

So, uninstalled PSP X, then re-installed from the disc, and no further problems upgrading all the way through to 10.03. It may be worth noting that I also found AOL updater pre-installed, which I also took the opportunity to uninstall, (let's just say that I'm not an AOL fan) as well as Corel Photo Album, which was giving me registration countdown messages every time I inserted a disc containing anything remotely resembling an image file. (Could I make it accept my attempts at registration??). I guess that if you've got PSP X pre-installed, Dell should also have given you the disc, otherwise you seem to be stuffed. If you haven't been given it, I can only suggest pestering them for it. Hope this is of some help.
